1. Why this authorization exists

1.1 Locksmith and access Services can open, bypass, duplicate, reprogram, or replace the means of entry to property, vehicles, and secured items. Because these Services can defeat security, KeyZup requires every customer to confirm they have the lawful right to request them. This authorization is mandatory. If you do not accept it, you may not request Services.

1.2 KeyZup is a marketplace intermediary and does not perform the Services. The Provider performs the work and exercises independent judgment about whether to proceed. This authorization does not shift KeyZup any duty to verify your authority, and it does not guarantee that a Provider will accept or complete a job.

2. Your acknowledgement of lawful authority

By accepting, you represent, warrant, and acknowledge that, for each request you submit, you have the legal right and authority to obtain the Services and, specifically, the authority to have a Provider:

  • (a) Enter property — enter the premises, unit, room, or area where the work will occur.
  • (b) Change or replace locks — install, rekey, remove, or replace locks, cylinders, deadbolts, or access hardware.
  • (c) Duplicate or reprogram keys — cut, duplicate, code-cut, or reprogram physical keys, fobs, transponders, or electronic credentials.
  • (d) Access vehicles — unlock, open, or make keys for a vehicle, including reprogramming vehicle keys or immobilizer credentials.
  • (e) Open safes and secured containers — open, bypass, drill, or reset safes, vaults, lockboxes, or similar containers.
  • (f) Perform eviction or landlord/access work — perform lockouts, rekeys, or lock changes in a landlord/tenant or eviction context, only where lawfully authorized and pursuant to lawful process.
  • (g) Access commercial premises — access offices, businesses, storage, or other commercial or multi-tenant spaces.

You further acknowledge that (i) you own the property, vehicle, or item, or you are lawfully authorized by the owner or by law to request the work; (ii) your request is for a lawful purpose; (iii) the information you provide is truthful; and (iv) you will provide reasonable proof of ownership, authority, or identity when asked.

3. What you must NOT do

You must not use the Platform to gain access you are not entitled to, including to: enter property you do not own or lawfully control; access a vehicle you do not own or are not authorized to access; facilitate theft, burglary, or trespass; carry out an unlawful or "self-help" eviction or lockout outside lawful process; stalk, harass, or harm another person; access a shared residence or vehicle to exclude, surveil, or endanger a co-owner, co-tenant, spouse, or partner without lawful right; or defeat security for any unlawful purpose.

4. Risk-based evidence recommendations

The following are recommended forms of proof by scenario. Providers may require more, less, or different proof at their discretion, and may decline if unsatisfied. These recommendations do not limit a Provider's judgment and are not legal standards.

ScenarioRecommended evidence (illustrative)
Vehicle work (unlock, key, reprogram)Government photo ID matching the requester; vehicle registration, title, or insurance in the requester's name; VIN match; explanation if names differ (e.g., spouse, company vehicle with authorization letter).
Residence lockout (occupant locked out)Government photo ID with the address, or a bill/lease/mail showing the requester at the address; ability to identify interior details; presence at the property.
Lock replacement / rekeyProof of ownership or authority to alter the property (deed, lease with alteration rights, or owner authorization); heightened scrutiny where an occupant may be excluded.
Landlord/tenant disputeProof of ownership/management authority; written notice or lawful basis; confirmation the action is not an unlawful self-help lockout; where required, evidence of lawful process as provided by the laws applicable to your jurisdiction.
EvictionCourt eviction order/writ or documentation that a lawful officer is directing/authorizing the work; identity of the authorizing party; confirmation that self-help eviction is not being attempted as provided by the laws applicable to your jurisdiction.
Safe openingProof of ownership of the safe and/or the premises where it sits; authorization from the owner if different; explanation of possession.
Commercial accessProof of ownership, tenancy, or authority to act for the business; authorization letter on company documentation; identity of the requester and their role.
Suspicious circumstances (any category)Additional ID and proof; direct owner confirmation; and, if authority cannot be established, decline.

5. High-risk jobs

Landlord/tenant, eviction, disputed access, commercial multi-tenant, safe opening, and situations suggesting domestic conflict or one party excluding another are high-risk. For these, expect additional proof, additional questions, and a greater likelihood that a Provider will decline. KeyZup and Providers may refuse any high-risk job at any time and for any lawful reason, including when documentation appears incomplete or process appears unlawful.

6. Provider refusal, report, and escalation policy

6.1 Do not proceed when authority is unclear. Providers are instructed not to begin or continue work when the customer's lawful authority is unclear, unverifiable, or contradicted by the circumstances. When in doubt, the Provider should stop and not proceed.

6.2 Refusal. A Provider may refuse or stop a job at any time, including where: required proof is not provided or does not match; names, addresses, or vehicles do not reconcile; another person disputes the requester's authority on scene; the situation appears to be an unlawful lockout or eviction; or the Provider believes the work may facilitate an unlawful act or endanger someone. Refusal on these grounds is not a breach by the Provider.

6.3 Report. Providers are encouraged to report suspicious, unsafe, or potentially unlawful requests to KeyZup through the in-app reporting tool, and to contact emergency services (911) directly if anyone appears to be in danger. KeyZup is not an emergency service — for any emergency, call your local emergency number immediately.

6.4 Escalation. Reported incidents may be escalated for review. KeyZup may, consistent with its policies and applicable law: request additional information from the customer or Provider; suspend or restrict a customer or Provider account (see Terms of Service, safety and compliance suspension); preserve records; and cooperate with law enforcement pursuant to lawful requests.

6.5 Customer cooperation. You agree to cooperate with reasonable verification and to not pressure a Provider to proceed without adequate authority. Attempting to induce access without authority may result in account termination and referral to authorities.

7. Point-in-time verification; no guarantee

Any verification KeyZup or a Provider performs is point-in-time and based on information available at that moment. It is not a guarantee of your authority, the Provider's authority, or the legality of the work. You remain solely responsible for having lawful authority for every request. KeyZup does not adjudicate ownership or authority disputes.

8. Relationship to other terms

This authorization supplements and is incorporated into the Customer Terms of Service. Capitalized terms not defined here have the meaning in the Terms of Service. If you breach this authorization, KeyZup's disclaimers, suspension rights, and your indemnity obligations under the Terms of Service apply.
